I’ll be the first to admit I have a cosmetics problem. I just can’t get enough. And even though I have enough, I keep buying more. And more and more and more. Can you say #KoopSiekte!?
I love face masks! I think it’s one of the easiest ways to improve your skin, and even if you have no major skin issues, it’s still a nice way to relax. I try to use it at least twice a week if possible.
Let’s have a look at some of my face masks currently in rotation…
I bought a few interesting ones the past month – first up is the A’pieu Milk One Pack. I got these off Milo&Mo (check out their website, so much fun stuff on there!). I got the Chocolate (smoothing), White (hydrating) and Coconut (moisturising) varients. I haven’t used any of them yet, but will post something when I have!

Freeman masks are a firm favourite for me. We have a few in our house – Anti-Stress Dead Sea Minerals Clay Mask, Charcoal & Black Sugar Polishing Mask, Sweet Tea & Lemon Peel-Away Clay Mask and the Acai Purifying Clay Mask. A while back I also had the Pineapple Enzyme one that I loved, but I haven’t seen it in store for a while, so I’m thinking it’s been discontinued *sad face*. I love the Anti-Stress Dead Sea Minerals mask, it really cleans out your pores and leaves skin soft and smooth. The Acai Purifying mask also deep cleans, but for some reason it makes my eyes tear a bit, nothing hectic though. I like the idea behind the Charcoal & Black Sugar mask, but it’s a bit messy seeing as it’s an exfoliant and a mask. But gives a good cleaning none the less! The Sweet Tea & Lemon Peel Away mask is a horror to work with. I don’t like peel off masks to begin with due to the fact that its a moerse pain to get off (fine hair on my facial area) and I just in general don’t find the sensation of something peeling my skin off enjoyable. I will give it a few more tries though, just to make sure it really doesn’t work.

The Beautiful Store (check out their website here) recently had a buy 1 get 1 offer on Tara & Jack facial masks…how could I not give it a go?! #koopsiekte
The Shaker Mask with Apple Stem Cells has the following description on the site: “This Gel Mask is ideal for rejuvenating skin, fighting pigmentation and combating signs of ageing.
Properties and Ingredients: PhytoCellTec™ Malus Domestica is a liposomal preparation based on the stem cells of a rare Swiss apple that protects longevity of essential and skin stem cells, fights again chronological ageing while rejuvenating the skin and preserves the youthfulness and vitality of skin. Flucogel® has a moisturizing effect, both immediate and prolonged reaching its maximum effect 3 hours after application. Skin feels silky afterwards. Glycerin is a moisturizer that persists for at least 24 hours while the emollient properties affect the flexibility of the skin.”
With regards to the Gold Radiance and Glamour Shaker Mask: “The Golden flakes in this mask assist in revealing a healthy complexion with skin that feels radiant and glamorous. A luxurious skin-deep treatment, this mask is perfect before an important event or when wanting to give skin a special treat.”
Sounds extremely science-y and I love the shaker concept (you get a small container type thingy and you mix the powder with water to form the mask). I’ve read a few reviews on these masks and most indicate that you can keep the excess mask in the container in the fridge for a couple of days, giving you multiple uses. Bonus bonanza!

I also have a few sheet masks in my drawer – brands include:
- Sorbet – always a winner! I have some pigmentation issues to I usually opt for the brightening variety (they have both one and two step masks). I stock up when it’s 3 for 2 at Clicks. Ja ja, #koopsiekte
- Skin Republic – I recently bought this bubble mask and loved it! It gets all fizzy on your face! So much fun! And it really cleans and leaves skin soft and silky smooth. Will definitely repurchase this!
- Skin Strategy – these are really cost effective! And effective! I purchased these at Dischem for between R15 – R20 depending on variety. A total steal!
- Clicks face mask – I love these small packets as it fits easily into a cosmetics bag when going away and this exfoliation variety is glorious to clean skin!

I bought these packets of sheet masks on my last trip to the US, a total bargain at TJ Maxx (sort of like a discount store, loads and loads of random stuff, in hindsight should’ve bought so much more…). The one brand is Danielle Creations and the other is SpaLife. I used a hydrating one over the weekend and it was great! Skin felt lovely and hydrated afterwards.

I think most people have heard of the Garnier 3in1 Charcoal product by now. I usually keep this in the shower and every now and then scrub my face (and sometimes even my underarms…) into oblivion (after which it looks like I’ve actually been in a coal mine – black stuff everywhere). But sometimes I apply this as a mask and sit with it for around 20 minutes until it dries completely. Yoh, this stuff cleans out gunk. And when you rinse if off you get the added benefit of some exfoliation due to the texture of the product. Bonus bonanza again!

There you have it! Facial masks for Africa! And yes, I will be buying more! If it looks interesting, I will be getting it.
Do you have any favourites?
I was so excited to see Apieu masks in this blog post. I wanted to purchase them a while ago for the cute packaging alone 🙂 It’s great that you like them too. Xxx
